The story of  Tata

Tata is the biggest business group in India. They have a revenue of over 128 billion dollars and they provide jobs for over 9 lakh people. Tata group companies have a combined market capitalization of 331 billion dollars. Here we are going to know more about Tata group and its different business structures. They have listed around 29 companies in the Indian stock market. All companies have different boards of directors. How is Tata controlling all these companies? Tata sons have shares in all the companies and they are controlling the other subsidiary companies and all revenue comes to Tata sons

Who has more shares in Tata Sons?

Around 70% of the shares are owned by different charitable trusts and educational trusts. This is the reason the Indians have special emotions for the Tata business group.

History of  Tata

Tata group started their business in 1868 and was founded by Jamsetji Tata. Jamsetji was born into a business family. He joined his family business in 1858 and in 1868 he started his own business. He started the cotton spinning company. He has many plans to start different business ventures.

He fulfilled one of his dreams, he started the Taj hotel in 1903. After the death of Jamsetji Tata in 1904, his son Dorabji Tata become the chairman of the Tata group. Under Dorabji Tata’s leadership he started his father’s rest of the dream business, in 1907 he started Tata steel in Jamshedpur, and in 1910 he started Tata power and in 1911 he started the Indian institute of science. Under his 32 years of leadership, he expanded Tata business from a cotton mill factory to various companies in different sectors

Unfortunately, he died in the year of 1932. Nowroji Saklatwala become the next chairman of Tata group in 1932. After 6 years in 1938, JRD Tata becomes the chairman of the Tata group. Large-scale expansion happens under the leadership of JRD Tata.

In 1952 JRD Tata starts the airline business and in 1953’s Indian government bought major shares of the airlines but JRD Tata continues his leadership in the airline business. In 1977 Indian government completely removed him from the leadership and took over the leadership.

In 1945 he started Tata motors. Initially, Tata motors focused more on locomotives later they started building transport vehicles for the public people.

In 1968 they started TCS (Tata consultancy service) .he started TCS in the initial era of information technology now TCS will be one of the best IT service providers in India. From his journey from 1938 to 1991, he expanded his business from 14 companies to 95 companies.

Ratan Tata

In 1991 Ratan Tata became the chairman of the Tata group in 1991 liberalization happened to many MNCs comes to India and started companies that make huge competition for Ratan Tata. He bought many large companies and expanded his business across the world few examples of Jaguar and Land Rover.
